Join the Northland APA!

While some membership cards require you to be able to jump the cue ball, bank it off three rails and sink the 8-Ball blindfolded, getting an APA Membership Card is much easier.

Having fun, meeting new people and playing pool is what the APA is all about.. You don't have to be a pool shark, because in the APA -- everyone can play and anyone can win. The APA wants beginners and novices, because it is the AMATEUR Poolplayers Association. No other organization in pool gives ordinary players a chance to win a share of nearly $1.5 MILLION guaranteed cash and prizes paid out through its national tournaments.

How does the APA do it? It uses The Equalizer® handicap system to determine the amount of games a player has to win in order to capture the match. It allows a novice to win less games than a more-skilled opponent to win a match.

TRI-CUPS – WHAT, WHY, AND HOW

What: 3 tournaments, one held after each session where qualified teams compete for a slot in the LTC’s(City Championships) and win additional CA$H and prizes.

Why: To create a more exciting playoff/LTC qualifying format that also helps manage the size of the LTC’s and preserves the popular double elimination – 32 team bracket LTC.  This is the most popular format used across the country.

How:  Division with 5 or less teams: The team with the most points at the end of

the regular session will qualify for the Tri-Cup. The 2nd and 3rd place

teams will compete in the Divisional Playoffs on their regular night of play. The Playoff winner will advance to the Tri-cup.

Division with 6 to 11 teams: The team with the most points at the end of

the regular session will qualify for the Tri-Cup. The 2nd, 3rd’, 4th, and 5th place

teams will compete in the Divisional Playoffs (2nd vs. 5th and 3rd vs. 4th). Each 1st round playoff winner will advance to the Tri-cup. Therefore, the "Point Leader" and the "1st round Playoff Winners" will all advance to the Tri-cup.

Division with 12 or more teams: The team with the most points at end of

the regular session will qualify for the Tri-Cup. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th place teams will compete in the Divisional Playoffs (2nd vs. 7th, 3rd vs, 6th, and 4th vs. 5th).

Each 1st round Playoff winner will advance to that session’s Tri-Cup.  Therefore, the "Point Leader" and the "1st round Playoff Winners" will all advance to the Tri-cup.

As our league continues to grow, so will our Tri-cups. Our Tri-cups will be run as a single elimination event (considered an extension of the Playoff Format) played down to “qualifying positions”. In other words, if we have 16 teams in our Tri-cup, and we are qualifying 8 teams for the LTC via single-elimination, teams will need to win one match to earn an LTC

slot. The remainder of this tournament will be played out for cash and prizes.

How does the Tri-cup effect me?

Tri-Cups increase the frequency of cash payouts

Tri-Cups result in more tournaments for the players, resulting in a more exciting experience.

Tri-Cups encourage all teams to “play hard” every session. Even teams who are already LTC qualified from a previous session can compete in the next Tri-cup, where “cash and prizes” are awarded.
